How users opt in to SMS messages

The NextOfKin app collects SMS consent through an in-app opt-in flow. Users are never subscribed to text messages by default.

When a user chooses to enable text reminders, they are shown a dedicated SMS consent screen with a phone number field and an unchecked consent checkbox. The user must actively check the box and tap Save to opt in. The checkbox is never pre-checked. Users may also skip this step entirely.

The exact consent language

The sentence a person agrees to, word for word:

• I agree to receive check-in reminder texts from The NextOfKin App at this number. Message frequency depends on your check-in schedule. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop, HELP for help.

Opting out, opting back in, and help

• Reply STOP to any message to opt out at any time. Opt-out is honored immediately and at no cost.
• You can also turn text reminders off inside the app, in Settings.
• Reply START to opt back in, or re-enable text reminders in the app.
• Reply HELP for support information, or email hello@thenextofkinapp.com.

Your number and your consent record

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Your phone number, consent record, and opt-out record are used only to deliver the messages you asked for, to honor opt-out requests, and to keep the records mobile carriers and applicable regulations require.
