How Users Opt In to SMS Messages from The NextOfKin App
The NextOfKin app collects SMS consent through an in-app opt-in flow. Users are never subscribed to text messages by default.
Opt-in process
When a user chooses to enable text reminders, they are presented with a dedicated SMS consent screen that includes a phone number field and an unchecked consent checkbox. The user must actively check the box and tap "Save" to opt in. The checkbox is never pre-checked.
Consent language shown to users
"I agree to receive periodic SMS messages from the NextOfKin app including check-in reminders and account organization prompts. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. Reply STOP to opt out at any time."

Users may also skip this step entirely by tapping "Skip for now."

Wellness check-in reminders, account organization prompts, and quarterly drill reminders.
Message frequency
Varies, typically 1–3 messages per week.
Opt-out
Users can reply STOP at any time to unsubscribe. They can also disable text reminders from within the app.
Opt back in
Users can reply START or re-enable text reminders in the app.
Help
Users can reply HELP for support information.
